Are You Feeling Lonely In Your Relationship?

Do you feel disconnected from your partner? Are you lost and unsure of how to rekindle the passion the two of you once shared? Perhaps you have been struggling to come to terms with how your relationship has changed. You may not know when this distance started growing between you, but now you hardly know this person you long to feel close to.

You might have doubts in your relationship, or feel lost in what you want. You may feel unsure of want in your own life, which can make it so much harder to know what you want with your partner. Life can be overwhelming between your career, children, finances and more, which can really strain your relationship and make it more difficult to heal your relationship or marriage problems.

Maybe you can’t stop reliving past events that wounded your relationship in ways that have never quite healed. Now, it seems you can’t speak openly or be vulnerable with your partner anymore. You don’t know how to move forward together.

Regardless of the source of your relationship struggles, do you just wish you could communicate with your partner? Do you want something deeper and more intimate with your partner, but you’re not quite sure how to get it?

Relationships Can Be Difficult

It can be unbelievably frustrating to feel disconnected or distant from your partner, especially when all you want is to feel seen and heard. And, when you partner feels more like a roommate than a significant other, it’s common to wonder if it’s even possible to maintain an intimate long-term relationship.

Like so many others, you might be asking yourself, how did I end up here? Why do I feel so alone?

But, as frustrating as it may be, it’s normal to feel confused or lonely in a relationship, as well as discouraged when a deeper intimacy seems out of reach. Nearly everyone struggles with their relationship at some point or another.

It’s also likely that you’ve faced similar issues in previous relationships, even if you didn’t realize it at the time. Relationship patterns stem from your role models in life, especially your earliest caretakers, but few people grow up with examples of healthy relationships. If you were not taught to communicate effectively when you were young, it’s only natural that you might struggle communicating with the person closest to you as an adult.

Luckily, counseling at Couples and Family Counseling Center can help you and your partner learn how to communicate more effectively. You can strengthen your connection and start moving forward together.

You Might Have Some Questions Or Concerns About Couples Counseling…

My partner doesn’t want to go to therapy, but I do…

It’s common for one partner to want to go to therapy when the other does not—this can feel isolating and intimidating. Make sure your partner knows that you’re willing to put in your part to work things out, and that it’s okay to ask for relationship help. Let your partner know that even though it may seem hard, it can be so helpful to simply talk things through with an objective party who is there for both of you. With that help, you can both begin your healing journey towards stronger and more intimate relationship.

Is my relationship beyond repair?

So many couples feel like their problems are too big to repair and move forward from. But most of the time, relationships issues don’t seem as bad once you begin talking about them. Opening up can feel scary, but with effort and commitment, you can make your relationship work again. The biggest step you can take, and sometimes the hardest, is making that first phone call to ask for help.

Will therapy actually help us?

Therapy can be very helpful and effective in healing your relationship. You can address the issues that you might know are there, but fear bringing up with your partner. I have helped so many couples grow closer and rekindle their old passions for each other. I believe that you can mend the relationship problems that have been getting in the way of your bond and your shared life.
